4 Fold Bath Screens
4 Fold Bath Screens for Maximum Space-Saving Flexibility
4 fold bath screens use four hinged glass panels to create a highly flexible shower-over-bath solution. The concertina design provides effective splash protection when extended, while allowing the screen to fold into a compact position when the bath is being used. It is an ideal configuration for bathrooms where space, access and everyday flexibility are priorities.
The Ultimate Space-Saving Folding Bath Screen
A four-fold bath screen takes the compact design of a folding screen and adds further hinge points, allowing several glass panels to concertina together. This can significantly reduce the space occupied by the screen when it is not required for showering.
When unfolded, the panels create a substantial barrier along the bath edge to help contain shower spray. Once showering is finished, the screen can be folded away, leaving greater access to the bath and more usable space around the bathroom.
Four-fold screens are particularly useful in compact bathrooms, family bathrooms and shower-over-bath installations where a fixed panel would remain permanently in the way.
Typical 4 Fold Features
- Four panels: Multiple hinged glass sections
- Concertina action: Folds into a compact position
- Glass: Toughened safety glass
- Typical height: Around 1400mm
- Common widths: Around 800–1000mm
- Fitting: Selected models are reversible
Why Choose a 4 Fold Bath Screen?
Four-panel construction is designed around flexibility. It gives you substantial shower protection without requiring the screen to remain fully extended across the bath.
The multiple hinged sections allow the screen to concertina into a compact arrangement, helping maximise usable space around the bath.
With the panels folded away, access to the bath is less restricted than with a permanently fixed screen.
When extended, the four panels create a wide glass barrier designed to keep shower water within the bath area.
The screen can be extended for showering and folded away when the bath is being used conventionally.
A concertina screen can be especially useful where bathroom doors, furniture or sanitaryware leave limited clearance beside the bath.
Clear glass provides a bright, open appearance and offers a more permanent bathroom finish than a traditional shower curtain.
A Screen Designed to Fold Back to the Wall
The defining benefit of a four-fold bath screen is its compact concertina movement. When the shower is not being used, the panels can fold together towards the wall, helping keep the bath and surrounding floor area more accessible.
4 Fold vs 1 Fold, 2 Fold & 3 Fold Bath Screens
Adding folding panels gives the screen progressively greater flexibility, although the exact movement depends on the individual design.
| Screen type | Main advantage | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Fold | Simple folding movement with fewer moving sections. | Bathrooms needing some additional access without a multi-panel screen. |
| 2 Fold | Good balance between coverage and folding flexibility. | Bathrooms requiring practical two-panel movement and access. |
| 3 Fold | Additional hinge points allow greater folding flexibility. | Compact bathrooms where a wider screen needs to fold away efficiently. |
| 4 Fold | Maximum concertina-style folding in a compact screen configuration. | Bathrooms where unrestricted access and minimum folded projection are priorities. |
| Fixed | Simple construction and permanent splash protection. | Bathrooms with sufficient clearance where folding is unnecessary. |
How to Choose a 4 Fold Bath Screen
Because four-fold screens have several moving sections, careful measuring and planning are particularly important.
Check the Bath Edge
Measure the available width where the screen will be installed and compare it with the product's stated width and adjustment range.
Check the Wall Clearance
Work out where the four panels will sit when folded. Make sure the finished position does not conflict with taps, walls, furniture or other fittings.
Check Left & Right Compatibility
Many four-fold designs are reversible, but this is not universal. Confirm the installation direction and handedness for the exact model.
4 Fold Bath Screen Sizes
Four-fold screens are available in several configurations. Current UK examples include 800mm, 840mm, 850mm and 1000mm widths, with heights commonly around 1400mm.
One of the common compact sizes, particularly useful for standard straight baths where space beside the bath is limited.
Some premium and specialist four-panel designs sit around this width, providing a useful balance of showering coverage and compact folding.
Wider concertina screens can provide additional showering coverage while still folding into a compact position when not required.
Glass Thickness & Construction
The glass specification varies considerably between four-fold bath screen models, so compare the exact product details before ordering.
4mm toughened safety glass is used on a number of four-fold screens, including current 800mm and 840mm concertina examples.
Selected four-fold and semi-frameless designs use 6mm toughened glass, providing a different level of glass specification and visual weight.
Clear glass helps preserve light and openness around the bath and works particularly well with contemporary bathroom designs.
Framed & Semi-Frameless 4 Fold Bath Screens
The amount of visible framing can change the overall character of the screen.
Framed designs provide a more defined visual structure around the glass and are available in finishes such as chrome and polished silver.
Reduced framing gives the screen a lighter, more contemporary appearance while retaining the practical multi-panel folding arrangement.
Polished chrome and silver remain versatile choices that coordinate easily with conventional bathroom taps, showers and accessories.
Where 4 Fold Bath Screens Work Best
The compact concertina action can help maximise available space around the bath.
Useful where the bath needs to work equally well for showering and conventional bathing.
Provides a substantial glass alternative to a shower curtain while retaining bath functionality.
Folding movement can help prevent the screen from creating an obstruction in tight bathroom layouts.
Creates a practical showering area without the footprint of a separate shower enclosure.
A four-fold screen can modernise an existing shower-over-bath arrangement without changing the fundamental bath layout.
Check the Exact Folding Mechanism Before Ordering
Four-fold screens can use different hinge arrangements and not every model folds in exactly the same way. Check the manufacturer's installation instructions for folding direction, handedness, reversibility and the final folded position. This is particularly important where the bath is close to a wall, door or other bathroom fitting.
Four Fold Bath Screens for Chrome & Contemporary Bathrooms
A four-fold screen can be both highly practical and visually discreet. Clear glass keeps the bathroom feeling open, while chrome or polished silver framing provides an easy match for traditional bathroom fittings.
For a stronger contemporary look, selected four-fold designs are also available with reduced framing. Consider the wider bathroom scheme when choosing the finish and profile style.
