5 Fold Bath Screens

Five-Panel Concertina Design

5 Fold Bath Screens for Maximum Space-Saving Flexibility

5 fold bath screens use five hinged panels to create a highly flexible concertina-style shower screen. When opened, the panels provide generous coverage along the bath; when folded, they collapse into a compact arrangement to maximise access and usable space. This makes five-fold screens particularly useful for compact bathrooms and shower-over-bath installations where flexibility is essential.

The Ultimate Concertina Bath Screen

A five-fold bath screen is designed for bathrooms where a conventional fixed or single-panel screen would take up too much space. Multiple hinged sections allow the screen to extend across a substantial section of the bath while folding back into a much smaller footprint when it is not required.

This makes the five-panel configuration particularly useful where the bath needs to function as both a shower and a conventional bath. The screen can be extended during showering and folded away afterwards to provide easier access to the bath.

Five-fold screens are available in different widths, glass specifications and frame finishes, so the exact product dimensions and folding arrangement should always be checked before ordering.

```
Typical 5 Fold Features
Five panels: Multiple hinged glass sections
Concertina movement: Designed to fold into a compact position
Glass: Toughened safety glass
Typical height: Around 1400mm
Common width: Around 1200mm
Fittings: Chrome, black and other finishes available
```

Why Choose a 5 Fold Bath Screen?

Five-panel construction provides a particularly high level of movement, making it a strong choice when showering protection and compact storage are equally important.

```
Maximum Flexibility Multiple Folding Sections
Five interconnected panels can concertina together, allowing the screen to occupy significantly less space when it is not being used for showering.
Space Saving Folds Back Out of the Way
The compact folded arrangement helps keep the bath area and surrounding bathroom space accessible.
Protection Wide Splash Coverage
When fully extended, the five panels provide a substantial barrier to help contain shower spray and protect the bathroom floor.
Access Easy Bath Access
Folding the panels away can make it easier to step into the bath, clean the bath and use it conventionally when the shower is not required.
Compact Layouts Ideal for Smaller Bathrooms
A five-fold design can be particularly useful where nearby doors, furniture or sanitaryware make a permanently extended screen impractical.
Style Modern Glass Finish
Clear glass gives a brighter, cleaner appearance than a traditional shower curtain and can complement both contemporary and classic bathroom schemes.
```

Five Panels, Maximum Folding Flexibility

The key advantage of a 5 fold bath screen is how much movement the additional panels provide. The screen can cover a wide area when showering, then concertina towards the wall when the bath is being used without the shower.

5 Fold vs Other Folding Bath Screens

More panels generally mean greater folding flexibility, although the exact movement depends on the design of the individual screen.

```
Screen type	Main advantage	Best suited to
1 Fold	Simple movement and straightforward construction.	Bathrooms needing some flexibility without multiple panels.
2 Fold	Good balance of coverage and folding movement.	Everyday shower-over-bath installations with moderate space restrictions.
3 Fold	Greater folding flexibility with three hinged sections.	Bathrooms where a wider screen needs to fold into a compact position.
4 Fold	Highly compact concertina arrangement.	Space-conscious bathrooms needing multiple folding sections.
5 Fold	Maximum movement and compact folding across a wide screen.	Bathrooms where access, coverage and minimum folded projection are priorities.
```

How to Choose a 5 Fold Bath Screen

With five moving panels, careful planning is important. The screen needs to work both when extended for showering and when folded away.

```
01 — Measure
Check the Available Width
Measure the bath edge where the screen will be fitted and compare the measurement with the screen's stated width and adjustment range.
02 — Plan the Fold
Check the Folded Position
Consider where all five panels will sit when folded. Check clearance around walls, taps, furniture, doors and other bathroom fittings.
03 — Check Compatibility
Confirm Bath & Wall Suitability
Check that the screen is suitable for your bath shape and confirm any adjustment allowance for slightly uneven or out-of-true walls.
```

5 Fold Bath Screen Sizes

Five-fold screens tend to be wider than simpler folding configurations because their multiple panels are designed to provide substantial coverage. Current UK examples include 1200mm wide screens at approximately 1400mm high.

```
1200mm Five-Fold Screens
1200mm is a common current configuration, providing generous showering coverage while retaining the compact folding action of the five-panel design.
Approximately 1400mm High
Many current five-fold screens are around 1400mm high, providing a useful balance of showering protection and practical bathroom proportions.
Adjustment Matters
Some models offer wall-profile adjustment to accommodate small variations in the installation area. Always check the exact adjustment range for the screen you are considering.
```

Glass Options for 5 Fold Bath Screens

Glass thickness varies between five-panel models, so the exact specification should always be checked before purchase.

```
Common Specification 4mm Toughened Glass
Several current five-fold screens use 4mm toughened safety glass, providing a practical and relatively lightweight solution for a multi-panel folding screen.
Alternative 5mm Tempered Glass
Other five-panel designs use 5mm tempered glass, with selected models also incorporating easy-clean glass treatments.
Clear Finish Clear Glass
Clear glass keeps the bathroom visually open and works well with chrome, black, brass and other bathroom finishes.
```

Chrome, Black & Contemporary 5 Fold Bath Screens

The finish of the profiles and hardware can change the overall appearance of a multi-panel screen.

```
Chrome Five-Fold Screens
Chrome remains a versatile choice and works naturally with conventional chrome taps, shower fittings and bathroom accessories.
Matt Black Options
Matt black framing creates stronger contrast and can coordinate with modern black taps, shower fittings and accessories. Current five-panel examples are available in matt black.
Brushed Brass Styling
Selected five-fold screens are available in warmer metallic finishes such as brushed brass, offering another way to coordinate the screen with contemporary bathroom hardware.
```

Where 5 Fold Bath Screens Work Best

```
Small Bathrooms
The concertina action helps reduce the amount of space occupied by the screen when the shower is not in use.
Family Bathrooms
A flexible solution where the same bath needs to accommodate both showering and conventional bathing.
Shower-Over-Bath Installations
Provides substantial splash protection without requiring a separate shower enclosure.
Bathrooms with Restricted Clearance
Useful where doors, furniture or sanitaryware leave limited space for a permanently extended screen.
Modern Bathroom Renovations
A five-fold screen can replace a shower curtain with a more substantial glass solution while retaining the existing bath.
Multi-Use Bathrooms
The screen can be extended for showering and folded away when full bath access is preferred.
```

Check the Folding Direction Before You Order

Five-panel screens can have different hinge arrangements and folding actions. Some current models are designed for universal left- or right-hand installation, while others may have more specific fitting requirements. Always check the manufacturer's instructions for the exact model, including the folded dimensions and final position of the panels.

5 Fold Bath Screens for Practical Everyday Bathrooms

A five-fold screen is particularly well suited to bathrooms where flexibility matters more than having a permanently fixed shower barrier. The extended screen provides a generous showering area, while the concertina arrangement can be folded away afterwards.

For the best result, consider the screen alongside the position of your shower, taps, bath, bathroom door and nearby furniture. A little planning before installation can make a significant difference to how easily the folding mechanism works.
